History of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Garden State(New Jersey)
Our New Jersey club is a non-profit organization founded in August of 1984 with 16 charter members. Our first match was held in June of 1985 and the AKC recognized our chosen name, Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Garden State, in October of that same year. We went on to hold our required AKC recognized "B" matches and then proceeded to hold our required "A" matches. The results of successfully doing the preceding meant that we then were approved to hold AKC-licensed events where championship points are awarded.

Our first Funday was held in April of 1996 and our first Specialty was held in May of 1996. We have been holding a Herding Trial or Herding Instinct Test each year since 1988.

In November of 1991, the PWCCGS established its Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue Program, which is in full swing today with upwards of 25 dogs a year going through the program. Although based in NJ, the rescue group covers the tri-state area.

The Club holds a match show every year which supports both obedience and breed. We actively sponsor -- through sweeps or supported entries -- a number of shows each year. In 2001, the Club held its first Agility Trial. From our original 16 members, the Club has grown to over 60 members/families.
