2003 REGULAR CLASSES

(siggen)
First of all I would like to thank the committee for
giving me this opportunity to judge at the Garden State
corgi specialty. This was my first judging appointment
in USA, and I enjoyed every minute of a excellently run
show. The venue was a new one in the ballroom at the Holiday
Inn, Cherry Hill, NJ. We were presented with a beautifully
decorated and large ring, with carpeted floor, although
some complained about the flowered pattern, it was excellent
for the dogs to move and stand on. Thank you to my two
efficient stewards Melody Kist and Terry Coughlin who
made everything run smoothly in the ring, and to the show
secretary Judy Coughlin, show chairperson Joan R Giesler,
and president Karen Gunzel for taking so good care of
my wife and myself. The trip out to Ellis Island was very
interesting. We also enjoyed the company of the sweepstakes
judge Liz Sessions.
All though I visited the national last September and saw
all the wonderful dogs there, and expected to have many
lovely dogs to go over, I was very impressed by the general
depth of quality in most classes. I have judged them in
England, Australia and now USA, and in my opinion you
have the most even quality. The winners had to work hard
to earn their placings. Specially the puppy bitch class
and the large breed class were impressive. Presentation
and handling was excellent throughout, all though some
were not in their best coat. I also feel that your washing
and blow drying the whole dog the day before the show
will tend to make the coats softer and more open and with
a little spray to it will make assessment of correct coat
structure difficult. I found room for improvement in heads,
with quite a few short muzzles and pronounced eyebrows
spoiling the soft expression. Eye colour was no problem.
The top lines, hindquarters and hind action were generally
excellent, with some limitations to length and angulations
of upper arm and shoulder placement, resulting in restricted
front movement, and an abrupt set on of neck. The wish
for length of body in some cases gave less balanced dogs.

PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND
UNDER 9 MONTHS, DOGS (8
exhibited)
No obvious winner,
but many very promising puppies.
1. IMAGINETHAT'S DOUBLE ENTENDRE (Ch.
Brynlea Double Decker x Allspice Imaginethat Nonpareil, NA,
NAJ) Breeder/Owner: Barbara L. Farrell. Good size, excellent
outline, and very well balanced. Lovely head, eyes and ears.
Excellent neck and shoulders, well developed body, good bone,
but slightly turning his front feet. Well balanced and efficient
mover. Excellent coat.
2. SADDLE LANE RIVERSIDE G'DAY (Ch. Maplecreek Burbank
x Ch. Saddle Lane Asia Minor) Breeder: Andrew Carter &
Deb Shindle Owner: Mari Carroll & Karen Fruhmann. Another
one with a lovely outline, with excellent angulations, body
and bone, and an efficient mover. Would prefer a softer expression.
A little open coat.
3. ELFWISH SWEET TALKIN GUY (Ch.Salvenik Sweet Thoughts
x Ch. Elfwish Gingerbread Lady) Breeders: D. Francis &
S.Wolfskill. Owners: Sandra J. Wolfskill & Teresa Mulhausen
& Donna Francis. A lot of promise in this one, but very
much a puppy. Rather large ears that needs to firm up, and
a little long in muzzle. Beautiful neck and top line, and
moves with excellent drive sideways. Good body and bone, but
would like better feet, and needs to firm up in front. Excellent
coat, and just the right size.
4. CORGARD ACCOLADE TO FOXWAY (Ch. Caralons Casper
At Gaylord x Ch. Corgards Make Your Move) Breeders/Owner:
Kandy L. Boll & Michele Pohl. Would prefer a shade more
length in this one, but an excellent type. Head has good ears
and dark eyes, but a little short in muzzle tend to spoil
the soft expression. Would like better reach of neck. Excellent
feet, bone, body and coat. Moves freely.

PUPPY 9 MONTHS AND
UNDER 12 MONTHS, DOGS (9
exhibited)
1. CANTERBURY & XIII MAPLES GALAXY
(Ch. XIII Maple Steller Idea, CD x Ch. Canterbury English

Seas The Hour) Breeder: Owner. Owner: Cathy Donovan.Tri with
good size and a lovely outline. Sweet head and expression.

narrow in body and coming and going. Moved with excellent
reach sideways. Correct coat.
3. SPRINGMILLS ALL SHOOK UP (Ch. Dwynella Take A Chance
x Ch. Otreks Christmas Caroler) Breeders/Owners: Nancy &
Mike Oehlhof. I thought this should be my winner when the
class came in. I was, however, put off by his large and wide
set ears which spoiled the expression. Otherwise excellently
balanced, and in beautiful condition. Found out later he was
litter brother to winners bitch, and very similar.
4. PENTALAR PRINCE HARRI (Foxydale Smart Guy x Pentalar
Black Princess) Breeder: Hillaird Studley. Owners: Pamela
Smith Bell & Karen Skaggs. Very much a baby, but gives
an excellent picture standing. Excellent head, but expression
a little distracted by closely set eyes. Excellent neck and
shoulder placement, and good quarters, with excellent bone.
Needs to firm up in top line, front and feet. Excellent coat
and side gait.

of interest. WINNERS DOG

curved loin.

Oakwind Abbey Road) Breeders: Roberta Lord & Vincent &

mover sideways. Excellent coat.
2. TERENELF'S PLAYING FOR KEEPS (Ch. Terenelf's Special
Delivery x Terenelf's Trickeration) Breeder/Owner: Lois E.
Kay. Good size, but would like more substance and showing
a little less daylight. Good head neck and top line. Moves
with a rather short stride, due to open angulations.
